LIGHTING DECISIONS - Joe Gallon

Kitchen - We will use the normal kitchen lighting as this is already quite bright and can show what the lighting would normally be like if it was a real kitchen. And then the sudden change from the light of the kitchen to the darkness of the hallway as he leaves can work well to create mystery and wonder about what is going to change, so we will leave this normal, because we thought the darkness suggested what trouble he was going to get in to in the next few seconds of the film. As he leaves the building, there is a bright street lamp and we thought that if we filmed right under this, then it would light up the character and his surrounding area in a spooky way.

Interrogation Scene - For this scene, we wanted to make quite a cold affect in the room. The walls were already white and the room looked cold and empty. So we thought that this was an apportunity to really emphasise the conditions of the room. For the two shots we used this technique. But when we did close ups we will adjust the positions of the lights and sometimes put the light to one side and below the charcter to only light up one side of the face. We are experimenting with this at the moment before we start filming.

Attack Scene - For this scene, we have decided to film right under a street lamp and this gives a really bright colour right onto the action. It can really show up what we are wanting the audience to focus on and really emphasise the importance of this scene in the context of the film. The light has an orange hint and this will show that the lighting is not natural and hopefully suggest to the audience that it is being filmed under a street lamp and in quite a busy area.
