Ideas we will use for shots - Joe Gallon

We will use this style of shot for the shot of the attack that takes place after the chef has left the kitchen. The handheld style works well because it gives off a sense of chaos because of the camera shake and slightly lower quality. The lower quality proves that is is a handheld video camera and that it is also being filmed by one of the attackers. This also works well because it doesn't reveal who the other attackers are, fitting in with the thriller theme, because it asks a lot of questions in the opening. The lighting in the clip is also very clever, it draws you towards certain parts of the scene, for example, the gun.  The gun is cleary a big part of the scene and it makes you wonder where the scene will go, and obviously it is used in the next scene on the bike. We would use this in ours but light up whatever weapon was being used in our attack. There are lots of ways that we could do this. But we will probably use some low level lighting on the object because we dont want it to be obviously light up but it has to give you the impression that this weapon is going to be significant in the rest of the film.

LIGHTING DECISIONS - Joe Gallon

Kitchen - We will use the normal kitchen lighting as this is already quite bright and can show what the lighting would normally be like if it was a real kitchen. And then the sudden change from the light of the kitchen to the darkness of the hallway as he leaves can work well to create mystery and wonder about what is going to change, so we will leave this normal, because we thought the darkness suggested what trouble he was going to get in to in the next few seconds of the film. As he leaves the building, there is a bright street lamp and we thought that if we filmed right under this, then it would light up the character and his surrounding area in a spooky way.

Interrogation Scene - For this scene, we wanted to make quite a cold affect in the room. The walls were already white and the room looked cold and empty. So we thought that this was an apportunity to really emphasise the conditions of the room. For the two shots we used this technique. But when we did close ups we will adjust the positions of the lights and sometimes put the light to one side and below the charcter to only light up one side of the face. We are experimenting with this at the moment before we start filming.

Attack Scene - For this scene, we have decided to film right under a street lamp and this gives a really bright colour right onto the action. It can really show up what we are wanting the audience to focus on and really emphasise the importance of this scene in the context of the film. The light has an orange hint and this will show that the lighting is not natural and hopefully suggest to the audience that it is being filmed under a street lamp and in quite a busy area.

FILMING

The filming has been successful and we managed to film all the shots that we needed in the days that we planned. We took a huge variety of shots to choose from and this helped us when editing all the film together, as we filmed every scene from atleast 3 different angles, meaning we had a lot of choice. We had a few issues with light when filming as the natural light changed very quickly. So our time for filming was minimal, meaning that we had to work fast to create the effect we wanted.

These are some pictures of us filming...?

KITCHEN LOCATIONS - Joe Gallon

Our locations have changed from what we originally planned to do. We have found a more appropriate kitchen to use, as this is more of an industrial kitchen. It is in Horsted Keynes and we will blog the permission that we got from the manager of the workplace.

This is the buliding that we have decided to use, with the kitchen located inside. We will also use the outside for when he exits his workplace. The artificial lighting that is already in place here will work really well for our film and fit in with the transition to the main scenes.

what days are we filming everything?

The kitchen scene - Friday 4th after college
The interigation Scene - Tuesday 1st after college

We will shoot the scene in the interview room at Haywards Heath College. We will make sure we stick to the 180 degree rule in the room and because there are filing cabinets and things that wouldnt normally be in a police interogation room, we have to film in a way that makes sure theyre not in the shot. We will use shallow deptyh of field to help achieve this.

Today we tried out some different lighting options and ideas for what we could use on monday and eventually we decided on using strong side lighting which makes one side of the face dark and one side bright. This will create a mysterious feel and change the mood of the character.

Kitchen Scene - Joe Gallon

We aim to make the kitchen look like a workplace kitchen where a worker will be made the suspect of a murder. We will do this by getting permission to use an industrial kitchen which we will post permission of on the blog later on.

This is the sort of scene that we intend to create

We will set up the kitchen to make it look clean as if he has just finished work, as the muder happens when he is on his way out of work.

THIS IS AN OPTION THAT WE HAVE FOR THE KITCHEN
